📋 DYC Hurricane Preparation Checklist
Key safety procedures for wet slips, dry slips, and facility protection prior to gale/storm warnings.
Double All Dock & Spring Lines:
Ensure adequate slack for Potomac
storm surges (up to 6-8 ft). Use anti-chafing gear at all fairleads and cleats.
Remove Roller Furling & Canvas:
Remove headsails, mainsails,
biminis, and dodgers to eliminate windage and prevent torn rigging.
Check Automatic Bilge Pumps & Batteries:
Test float switches and verify
battery banks are fully charged. Shore power will be disconnected prior to landfall.
Stow Loose Deck Gear:
Lash down anchors, remove outboard
motors where possible, secure paddleboards, kayaks, and dock boxes.
Dry Storage & Trailer Tie-Downs:
Boats on trailers in the dry yard
must be secured to ground anchors and trailer tie-down straps tightened.
