DYC Social Activities
"...there is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats....or with boats....In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you've done it there's always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you'd much rather not."
- Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows
Note: Due to MWR policies, we cannot receive or expend funds for alcoholic beverages. Therefore; all our functions, except for those where a cash bar is provided by a facility such as JD's or a restaurant, will be BYOB. Soft drinks will still be provided by the club.
Social Event Descriptions
DYC conducts several social events each year for the membership. Below is a brief description of each event.
Annual Meeting and Banquet
This event has the DYC Annual Meeting and new officer election followed by a banquet dinner then entertainment in form of music or speaker on topic of general interest.
This event typically follows the morning work party and marks the start of the boating season. It is held at the Dockhouse.
These events occur the week after a Thursday night racing series completes. It starts after the race completes and consists of food, socializing and awards for the just completed race series.
Evening Dinner Cruise
This event is an evening cruise from Colonial Beach Pier to Cobb Island for dinner and return. Fee for boat is minimal and dinner is on you. Number of people is limited unless we get enough participation for two boat trips. If the boat is not available the event is replaced by the Sunset Dinner.
This event is an evening party at the end of the boating season. It is a good place to bring all the remaining food/drink from you boat before you haul it for the winter. Fall sailing awards will be made during the evening. Barbecues will be provided as will some sausages and hamburgers/buns. Everything else is pot luck so bring something. Weather permitting a bon fire will be lit.
St. Clements Island Cruise
This event is a overnight cruise and raft up in canoe neck creek near St. Clements Island.
This event is an evening dinner on the water at a selected restaurant that replaces the Evening Dinner Cruise if the boat is not available.
