Under-The-Guns Regatta

NOTICE OF RACE
1. RULES
- Race Governance: The Under-The-Guns Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) , as modified by the sailing instructions.
- Eligibility: DYC recommends that competitors be member of PHRF of the Chesapeake, but it is not a requirement. Boats that are not PHRF members will be assigned a rating by DYC.
- Green Regatta: This regatta is a Sailors for the Sea "Clean Regatta." As such, all competitors are encouraged to use non-single use water bottles and recycle all appropriate items. Competitors are reminded of rule 55 which states that competitors "shall not intentionally put trash in the water."
2. Fleets
- The Fleets are PHRF Spinnaker and PHRF Non-Spinnaker. There will be a single start. The flags and start sequence can be found in Appendix A of the DYC General Sailing Instructions.
- Each competitor will be responsible for their boats being in compliance with the PHRF of the Chesapeake Near Shore Rules formerly known as 6P.

4. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

- Rendezvous at Red Nun 2 near Black Marsh, South of Machodoc Creek, Registration & check-in before the 1st warning.
- 12:00
- Warning 1st race. Three races are held, if possible. Generally up wind downwind courses will be used.

5. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The Sailing Instructions will be the DYC PHRF and Centerboard Fleet General
Sailing instructions and are available at and are available on the web at: https://www.dahlgrenyachtclub.org/race.html
The Government Marks can be found there as well.
6. COURSES
The courses and intentions of the Race Officer will be announced on VHF Channel 72. The starting/finishing line will be between a Government Mark and an Orange Ball or two Orange Balls as specified by race committee. All classes will start in a single start but will be scored separately. There will be no Race Officer Boat on station as the Race Officer will be competing in the races.
7. FINISH TIME RECORDING
All competitors will record their elapsed time for each race for later verification if needed. When they cross the finish line they will announce on the VHF Channel 72 when they cross followed by the elapsed time they recorded.
8. SCORING
Time-On-Time will be used as the method to score the finishing place of competitors.
9. PROTESTS
Hearings will be held generally in accordance with the recommendations of Appendix M5 of the RRS. The officers for hearing a violation will consist of the Event Chairman and two others DYC members selected by the Event Chairman.
10. PRIZES
Awards will be given out at a later date and will be determined based upon number of entrants, in accordance with DYC Racing Instructions https://dahlgrenyachtclub.org/race/DYCRaceInstruction.html 7.3.

*Due to the fact that the regatta will be taking place in Maryland waters, all vessels must follow the MD DNR COVID guidelines https://news.maryland.gov/dnr/2020/05/06/frequently-asked-questions-about-governor-hogans-stay-at-home-order. Face coverings and best attempts at social distancing must be in place on all vessels participating.*
