The Organizing Authority (OA) is the Dahlgren Yacht Club.
NOTICE OF RACE
1. RULES
The Under-The-Guns Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) , as modified by the sailing instructions.
1.1 CLASS ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP
DYC recommend that competitors be member of PHRF of the Chesapeake, but it is not a requirement.
1.2 GREEN REGATTA
This regatta is a Sailors for the Sea "Clean Regatta." As such, all competitors are encouraged to use non-single use water bottles and recycle all appropriate items. Competitors are reminded of rule 55 which states that competitors "shall not intentionally put trash in the water."
2. Classes
- Class are PHRF Spinnaker and PHRF Non-Spinnaker. In the start sequence the Class flag for non spinnaker is white and the class flag for spinnaker is red.
- Each competitor will be responsible for their boats being in compliance with the PHRF of the Chesapeake Near Shore Rules, formerly known as Category 6P.
- Boats with a valid PHRF of the Chesapeake certificate are eligible. Boats without a certificate will race with DYC provided handicap.

4. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

- Rendezvous at Red Nun 2 near Black Marsh, South of Machodoc Creek, Registration & check-in before the 1st warning.
- 12:00
- Warning 1st race. 3 races are scheduled (if possible)
- 17:00
- Party & awards at DYC facility.

5. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The Sailing Instructions (SIs) will be the local DYC PHRF series SI’s and are available on the web at: http://www.dahlgrenyachtclub.org/race.html
Location of the Marks can be found at that location as well.
6. COURSES
Windward/Leeward courses utilizing government or drop marks and laps to be sailed by each class will be designated and displayed by the race committee boat. The non spinnaker will start first followed by the spinnaker. Example: W 1 2 is a windward/leeward course with 1 lap for non-spinnaker and 2 for spinnaker class. The courses and intentions of the race committee will be announced on VHF CH 68.
7. SCORING
A maximum of Three (3) races are scheduled, of which ONE (1) shall be completed to constitute a series. This changes rule A2. Time-On-Time will be used as the method to score finishing place of competitors.
8. SAFETY
A US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device shall be worn, properly fastened, at all times when flag “Y” is flown by the Race Committee. Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification. A boat retiring from a race shall notify a Race Committee vessel before leaving the course, or hailing the Race Officer on VHF CH 68.
9. PROTESTS
Hearings will be held generally in accordance with the recommendations of Appendix M5 of the RRS. The officers for hearing a violation will consist of the Event Chairman and two others DYC members selected by the Event Chairman.
10. PRIZES
First through Third places of both classes will be awarded (provided there are at least three in class).
