YOU ARE INVITED
The Dahlgren Yacht Club will host an invitational regatta on the Potomac
River. Class starts will be given for fleets of 4 or more boats. Past events
have had separate starts for Laser, Lightning, Thistle, and Buccaneer classes.
An Open Portsmouth Handicapped fleet will be started for all boats which
do not qualify for a fleet start. Entry fee includes post race food and soft
drinks for participants.
LOCATION
Dahlgren Yacht Club is located on the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren,
Virginia, just south of the US 301 Harry Nice Bridge over the Potomac River.
From 301 travel east on route 206 (Dahlgren Road) until you reach the Main
Gate. Picture ID needed to enter the base, maps to Yacht Club available from
Gate Guard.

Additional starts will be at 3 minute intervals with Open fleet start being
last. Start times and order of start will be announced at the Skippers Meeting.
No starts are planned after 2:30 PM.

LAUNCHING AND DROP OFF
Boats must be ramp or beach launched at the Yacht Club, there is no lift.
If you want to drop off your boat on Friday evening contact the Registrar,
Janine Armstrong, to make arrangements.
COURSES AND RACES
Courses will be either Windward/Leeward or modified Olympic. The race area
will be on the Potomac river off the entrance to Machodoc Creek. Long courses
on open water are the objective. Three races are planned.
POST RACE
Trophies will be awarded during the post race Octoberfest Party. Due to Base
regulations the party is BYOB.
ELIGIBILITY
Entries are limited to open sailboats under 20 feet in length. Both monohulls
and multihulls are eligible. Competitors will compete under US Sailing rules
and the rules of the classes participating. A Low Point scoring system will
be used to determine the class/fleet standings. Open fleet boats will be
assigned a handicap based upon the Portsmouth Yardstick handicapping system.
Judgements, exceptions, and adjustments to handicaps will be at the sole
discretion of the scorekeeper.

LIABILITY
It is the policy of the Dahlgren Yacht Club that all sailors participate
at their own risk. All regatta participants (skippers and crew) are required
to sign a liability waiver form at registration prior to sailing.
